The Chelsea Flower Show
Julia has sent us a journal entry from The English Garden Tour. See how the tour is flourishing…
The Chelsea Flower Show is a smashing success and our Women With Wings tour group have as many opinions as there are gardens…..I will be challenged on this tour of very enthusiastic and knowledgable garden enthusiasts! This lovely garden was inspired by the Italian gardens Villa d’Este and Villa Lante yet planted with what grows in England for a lovely result. If there is a theme to this ‘Paris catwalk of gardens’ it is with consideration of water conservation, a very useful concept for our gardening at home. And home, for this group of garden lovers, is from Vancouver Island to Newfoundland.

Inspired by the Italian gardens Villa d’Este and Villa Lante

From “Best in Show” by Cleve West, beautifully sculptured formality with free-wheeling perennials. Really, stunning

The RBC Blue Water Garden, all rainwater is collected in the canals and redirected as needed into the planting – an idea borrowed by the Paradise Garden style of Persian gardens.

A 7 story garden with, bottom to top: a shade garden; Japanese pavilion with pines, maples, bamboo; a Victorian greenhouse, outdoor kitchen & dining room; potager; shower & bath; hammocks and – a tubular slide to come down. Designed by an eccentric Irishman – Diarmuid Gavin who made an extraordinary hanging garden last year.
Until next time, keeping smiling!
