Women With Wings has grown organically, originating from Travel Concepts’ Mothers & Daughters tours in the early 2000s. When ladies without mothers or daughters starting inquiring it seemed a natural move to offer tours for women only. The name Women With Wings was a result of a contest amongst our clients – the name stuck and we officially launched the division with a party for 200 at Vancouver’s Maritime Center on October 6, 2006. The press picked it up and we were underway!
In 2022 Travel Concepts joined forces with The Travel Group and in 2024 Cindy Horton turned the luggage tags over to Hanne Sorensen who has worked with the team since 2013. This was another natural fit – Hanne has created, marketed and led tours herself for several years now so has worked Women With Wings full circle. Her calm leadership is opening the doors to new guests and new ideas.
Without a doubt, the success of Women With Wings has everything to do with close connections – our tour leaders are par excellence, taking pride in finding unique opportunities for every tour – some advertised, many not. Even those who don’t like surprises like ours! Some of the leaders are official tour guides, others are leaders who are using step on guides to provide history, both regional and local. We blend it all together to enrich the experience every time. Some of the leaders have been with us since day one – another nod to dedication, and love for connecting people.
Tours vary from short getaways such as mini cruises, others focus on art & architecture. Longer international trips are an opportunity to explore in depth, giving us an opportunity to connect with local women and to support their work. Fitness buffs can think hiking tours in the alps paired with winery tours, budding artists will visit artists in their own studios – always unique due to our connections. To date we have welcomed over 1300 ladies on planes, trains, automobiles, kayaks, rafts, bicycles and cruise ships.
