Soup Sisters Vancouver

Making a difference in our community

Last Sunday, 32 women of our Women With Wings members as well as family and friends visited the Dirty Apron Cooking School in Vancouver to volunteer with Soup Sisters, a non-profit charitable social enterprise dedicated to providing comfort to women, children and youth through the making, sharing and donating of soup. Soups made at the Dirty Apron Cooking School are delivered to Kate Booth HouseBroadway Youth Resource Centre and Koomseh Transition House.

Upon arriving at the Dirty Apron, we were given an apron and the choice of a soup that would determine our team of 4-5 ladies that would be making a massive pot of soup. We enjoyed a glass of wine and fresh appetizers while meeting our fellow team members, and were introduced to the Soup Sisters volunteers and our celebrity chefs Jonathan Chovancek & Lauren Mote from Kale and Nori Culinary Arts . Off we went chopping, stirring, (puréeing in some cases) and sampling our delicious soups.  Each team was led by a Soup Sisters volunteer, and received valuable cooking tips and techniques from our celebrity chefs.

While the soup was cooking, we wrote out ingredient labels for the containers the soup would be delivered in, and then we were free to sample some of the other teams’ soups before we enjoyed dinner. Everyone was served a salad, a bowl of the chef’s soup, bread and another glass of wine to enjoy in the beautiful dining room of the school. It was a fantastic way to spend a Sunday evening, meeting new friends, spending time with old friends, laughing and supporting a great cause.

Many thanks to all our volunteers, the Soup Sisters volunteers, our celebrity chefs and the Dirty Apron! For more information on Soup Sisters and to learn how to book for a monthly Soup Sisters Vancouver event, click here.
